You may be wondering what a Nixie Tube is and why would someone make a clock out of vacuum tubes. From the photo above you  may well correctly guess that a Nixie tube is a type of numerical display device. They have been around for a long time as the original numerical display devices long before multiple segment LED numerical displays appeared. A Nixie tube is literally a a tube with 10 different segments that upon applying a voltage, light up and display a very nicely shaped number. The came in many sizes and shapes for many applications. They were originally used for numerical readouts on early control systems and computers during the vacuum tube era up to the late 60s - early 70s. There is still a good number of unused stock available of various Nixie tube types. Anyway, I have seen several really nice Nixie Click on this picture to view a larger image!tube clocks made here in the states from small home brew manufacturers that are just beautiful , but very expensive (over $1,000). A few months ago friend of mine got one the the pretty polished steel beauties shown on this page as a gift from friend in Europe. I immediately started a search. It took me a several days, but I managed to get in touch with the clock/design company in Europe that makes these. When I found out how reasonably priced they were, I immediately ordered several because I knew my tube aficionado customers out there would have to have it (as I did!). However, it looks like I was not the only one who had this idea though. A look in a recent Stereophile magazine shows the same clock being sold only on-line via a web site called tubeclock.com for $299. Well, I'm not that greedy. For $279 you can get the exact same clock from me. The clock is made in Holland by the clock manufacturer Karlsson and was designed by Dutch designer Peter Van Der Jagt. It is approximately 8" wide, 3" deep, and 4" tall and comes with a little wall wart power supply to power the clock. As of March 2003, demand continues for this neat item, so we are now keeping them in stock and ready to ship! So, if you want to order one just drop us a line.
